The Perfect Setting

One of the reasons I love the holidays is setting a beautiful table. I know I am a serious throwback to the times when meals were an affair; not to take on the run and rush through.

When I was growing up, my mother made dinners that we sat down to eat at the dining table, (go figure!) and we talked and spent time laughing and catching up with everyones’ day. I love the ritual of the napkin and the charger and the salad and dinner fork…. Water glass, wine glass, candles and a center piece. Sadly there aren’t a lot of people around me that like all that pomp and ceremony. But I still try to spread a little beauty, even when only a handful notice. I think, in the back of their minds they may register some of the elements anyway, and that’s okay by me. As long as they let me play!

I’m always looking to pin lovely and creative table settings. They are so much fun to look at; themes, locations. Al Fresco? Yes!! A romantic porch overlooking a setting sun on a wide open beach? Yes!! A cozy meal in front of a roaring fire? Yes Yes!!! Check them out here on my Pinterest board. Both Williams-Sonoma and Pottery Barn have themed party planning pages on their websites, if you need some detailed suggestions. My favs!! Click on the pictures above to check them out. Of course they have great ideas, but my advice is to experiment with the elements you love, don’t be afraid to mix it up, but most of all have fun!
